Schools in Manipur are set to reopen for Classes 1 to 8 after being shut for several months due to the turbulent situation in the state. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced the decision and assured that tight security measures would be in place to ensure the safety of students and teachers.

The announcement comes after ethnic violence erupted in the state in May, leaving 118 people dead and nearly 40,000 displaced. The violence began after tribal Kuki groups protested against a proposal to grant scheduled tribe status to the majority Meitei community. As a result, schools were closed for safety reasons.

To address the security concerns, state security forces and paramilitary forces will be deployed in vulnerable areas. Additional security personnel will be deployed in five specific districts to ensure the protection of students and staff. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the state.

In addition to the security measures, the Chief Minister also discussed plans to remove illegally established bunkers and set up security posts at hilltops for better control of the situation. Drone surveys will be conducted around the clock, and a central monitoring headquarters will be established for reinforcement if necessary. Furthermore, mass frisking will be conducted to identify individuals with illegal arms.

As the law-and-order situation improves, the Chief Minister urged the public to return any snatched arms and ammunition before legal actions are taken. He emphasized the need for cooperation from the community to maintain peace and restore normalcy.

The decision to reopen schools for Classes 1 to 8 reflects the government’s commitment to providing education to children and ensuring their overall development. However, it is important to note that the situation in Manipur remains delicate and security measures are necessary to prevent any potential disturbances.

With the reopening of schools, it is hoped that children will once again have access to education and a sense of normalcy in their lives. The government’s efforts to maintain security and restore peace in the state are crucial for the well-being of the residents and the overall development of Manipur.

While the announcement of school reopening is a positive step, it is necessary to continue monitoring the situation and take further measures to ensure the safety of students and teachers. The government’s commitment to the security and well-being of the people of Manipur is essential for the progress and prosperity of the state.
