Nagaland’s Rural Development Authority has denied reports of the misappropriation of funds designated for the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gramin Yojana housing scheme (PMAY-G). The Nagaland Transparency, Public Rights Advocacy and Direct Action Org (NTPRADAO) had accused the authority of losing INR747,307,700 ($10.1m) allocated for more than 21,000 PMAY-G beneficiaries due to fraud and embezzlement by the former director and other officials. In response, authorities said the scheme was implemented through PFMS, an online cashless transfer system developed by India’s Ministry of Finance, which issued electronic payments for building materials to beneficiaries via vendors. They added that for the financial year 2016-2017, INR573,311,700 was received for the scheme, of which INR173,996,000 remains as part of its 2019-20 implementation.
