City Institutes Take Steps to Improve After Decline in NIRF Rankings

Several institutes in Pune, including Savitribai Phule Pune University, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Fergusson College, and College of Engineering Pune Technical University, have slipped in their rankings in the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2023. The rankings, announced on Monday, have raised concerns that traditional metrics used for student enrollment may not provide an accurate picture of the institutes. The ranking system takes into account factors such as peer perception, research, and professional practice. Institutes in Pune, in particular, received low scores in the peer perception factor based on a survey of employers, professionals, and educators. Most of these institutions also fared poorly in research and professional practice. Officials from CoEP Technological University, however, said that despite the rank slip, they had scored better in parameters like teaching, learning & resources, graduation outcomes, outreach, and inclusivity, and noted that the survey’s pool had expanded to include more participants this year.
