HAVERI: The circle inspector of Hangal police station, SR Sridhar, and constable Iliaz Shetasanadi have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty in the Haveri gang-rape case. C Gopal, the additional SP, Haveri, confirmed the suspensions, citing the constable’s inability in collecting information in advance about the crime and the circle inspector’s delay in filing the FIR as reasons behind the punitive measures. The circle inspector was also the in-charge of the police station. All seven accused in the case have already been arrested.
The survivor is facing health issues. Late on Monday night, her family struggled to ensure necessary treatment for her due to a lack of adequate facilities in their village. The woman, suffering from stomach cramps and depression, was admitted to a private hospital only on Tuesday morning.
The survivor’s brother said, She experienced intense stomach pain on Monday, but there was no medical facility in our village. This, despite the CM’s assurance during his visit to Haveri on Monday that adequate arrangements would be made for her treatment. Parimala Jain, the head of the women’s rehabilitation center in Haveri, said the survivor needs adequate rest and proper treatment.
Meanwhile, former CM Basavaraj Bommai condemned what he claimed as a lack of response on the part of the CM since the woman was sent back home without medical care. The government must take responsibility for providing treatment. This appears to be an attempt to hush up the case, he said.
