Chinese police have intensified their harassment of human rights lawyers and activists by imposing travel bans and other measures. Most recently, the family of Wang Quanzhang, who was previously jailed in a 2015 crackdown, was visited by a police officer who tried to gain entry to their home in Beijing’s Changping district. Wang’s wife, Li Wenzu, posted a video on Twitter of the officer refusing to identify himself. Human rights lawyer Li Heping and his family have been banned from leaving China since their landlord smashed a window at their rented apartment last month. The family were prevented from boarding a flight to Thailand last week at Chengdu’s international airport, after being considered dangerous to national security. In addition, a court in Changsha prevented detained rights lawyer Xie Yang from having a video meeting with his 90-year-old father, who has Covid-19.
