China Capitalizes on Hamas Terrorist Attacks
Last year, a bipartisan group of lawmakers visited Israel and witnessed the devastating impact of Hamas’s terrorist attacks. The constant fear that Israeli citizens live with each day became a grim reality when Hamas launched brutal assaults against innocent people earlier this year.
While freedom-loving countries and moral individuals worldwide condemned Hamas and expressed their support for Israel, communist China took advantage of this crisis. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) seized the opportunity to bolster Hamas terrorists, strengthen ties with Iran and its proxies, and sow division within the United States.
China’s initial response to the strikes was notably conciliatory. The CCP urged both sides to exercise restraint and remain calm, failing to acknowledge the innocent Israelis who suffered at the hands of Hamas terrorists. This response is consistent with the CCP’s history, including its genocide against Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang.
China’s actions towards Hamas are part of a broader strategy to undermine American global leadership, particularly in the developing world. China’s growing presence in the Middle East is a calculated move. The CCP engages in predatory lending practices in African countries struggling with jihadi insurgents and armed militias. Additionally, it has established trade relationships with anti-democratic dictators, working tirelessly to tip the global geopolitical scales in its favor.
Of particular concern is China’s increasing friendship with Iran. Both China and Iran share a vested interest in seeing American foreign policy objectives fail. Their shared anti-Western ideologies serve as a foundation for their relationship. China, as the top buyer of Iranian oil, allows Iran to evade U.S. sanctions while providing China with discounted oil, amounting to billions in savings. Chinese ports also serve as major destinations for Iranian tankers engaging in illicit trade, thereby violating U.S. sanctions.
In the aftermath of Hamas’s terrorist attacks, the CCP swiftly dispatched its diplomats across the Middle East. While this was partly an attempt to position itself as a peace broker on the global stage, it also aimed to undermine America’s effective diplomacy in the region following the success of the Abraham Accords. CCP diplomats discredited Hamas’s brutality, refusing to condemn Iran, which serves as its major oil supplier and partner in chaos, and downplayed Iran’s influence and funding for Hamas.
China’s opportunistic response extends beyond Iran and the Middle East. The CCP has actively sought to sow discord within the United States itself. TikTok, a popular app among young people, has become a platform where China promotes anti-Israel and pro-Hamas content. This strategic move targets those who rely on the app for news, potentially influencing their opinions. The People’s Forum, an organization with questionable ties to the CCP, reportedly supports pro-Hamas protests throughout the U.S., effectively undermining Israel’s necessary ground offensive and American efforts to secure the safe return of hostages.
China’s vested interest in Iran and its terrorist proxies aligns with their shared objective of destroying the state of Israel and undermining America’s closest ally in the region. It is crucial not to allow the CCP to claim the moral high ground publicly while actively supporting Hamas, meddling in American politics, and subverting U.S. diplomacy abroad. Standing with Israel requires holding accountable the supporters and enablers of the Oct. 7 massacre, including those who fail to denounce them.
In today’s complex geopolitical climate, it is imperative to recognize the multifaceted strategies employed by China. From exploiting crisis situations to undermining American influence, China’s actions have far-reaching consequences. By understanding and effectively countering these tactics, the international community can safeguard vital alliances and uphold the principles of democracy and freedom.
