Moreover, it poses a challenge for American studios as they face increasing difficulties in obtaining approval to release their top titles in China due to worsening relations between Beijing and Washington. Data from ticketing platform Maoyan indicates that only one Hollywood film has managed to enter China’s top 10 box office rankings this year, compared to one at the same time last year and four in 2019.
