A piece of many childhoods has officially been retired! Fruit Stripe Gum, a legendary chewing gum brand that has been a favorite for over 50 years, is being discontinued. Ferrara Candy, the company that manufactures Fruit Stripe Gum, announced the decision, stating that the product will gradually disappear from store shelves.
The gum, which was introduced in 1969 by the Beech-Nut company, has gained a loyal following over the years. Known for its vibrant colors and zebra-striped appearance, Fruit Stripe Gum was loved for its unique flavors like Wet n’ Wild Melon, Cherry, Lemon, Orange, and Peach. However, one common complaint about the gum was that its flavor would quickly fade away after just a few minutes of chewing.
We have made the difficult decision to sunset Fruit Stripe Gum, but consumers may still be able to find the product at select retailers nationwide, said a representative from Ferrara Candy. The decision to sunset this product was not taken lightly, and we considered many factors before coming to this decision, including consumer preferences and purchasing patterns.
Fruit Stripe Gum holds a special place in popular culture as well. It even made an appearance on the iconic game show Jeopardy! in the past. Contestants were asked to identify the mascot of Fruit Stripe Gum, which turned out to be a zebra named Yipes. The gum’s slogan, Yipes! Stripes!, became recognizable to many.
While the discontinuation of Fruit Stripe Gum may disappoint longtime fans, it signifies the end of an era for this beloved chewing gum brand. Its colorful packaging, zebra-striped gum pieces, and unique flavors will be missed by those who have grown up with it.
If you happen to come across Fruit Stripe Gum for sale at any Hudson Valley stores, be sure to let us know. We may just have to rush out and grab a few packs to relive the nostalgia!
