Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, has called for the resignation of Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw following the devastating train collision in Odisha that claimed the lives of at least 288 people and left over 1,000 others injured. Baghel criticised the BJP party for its lack of morality, stating that Vaishnaw should resign. He also highlighted the railway minister’s claims about modern technology preventing trains from colliding, asking how three trains could crash if such technology was in place. Baghel extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed hope for the early recovery of the injured. He further stated that Chhattisgarh was ready to provide support to the Odisha government in any way required. The three-way accident, which involved the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar Station in Odisha’s Balasore district, resulted in the derailment of 17 coaches and severe damage to the trains on Friday evening. According to Indian Railways, 747 people were injured in addition to the 288 fatalities.
