The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, took a jibe at opposition party BJP, saying that their leaders are trained to lie. In the midst of a controversy over purchasing paddy, Baghel accused BJP of spreading misinformation to sway public opinion. He argued that the Central Government buys crops in certain states through FCI, and if they had procured paddy in Chhattisgarh, then why did former Chief Minister Raman Singh buy 10 quintals of paddy? Baghel asserted that the loss incurred from selling paddy below the recommended price was borne by the state government, not the Center.
Baghel also claimed that the state government would continue to buy paddy from farmers regardless of whether the central government buys rice or not. He said that the rice that comes in the Civil Supplies Department belongs to the state, and they have allotted 35 kg of rice per family in the state, compared to the Centre, which only provides 5 kg.
Responding to Baghel’s accusations, BJP State President Arun Sao claimed that the government is purchasing paddy as an agency of the Central Government, and the Center had already paid Rs 51,000 crore for it. The State Government reportedly takes a loan of Rs 20,000-25,000 crore every year to purchase paddy.
The controversy between the ruling party and opposition has led to confusion among the public. The Chief Minister’s remarks suggest that BJP leaders are misleading the public for political gain. The opposition, on the other hand, claims that the government is hiding the truth about paddy procurement. It is yet to be seen how this issue will be resolved, but it is clear that both sides are determined to hold their ground on this matter.
