Chhattisgarh BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar has criticized the Congress party for not clarifying whether Bhupesh Baghel will be the Chief Ministerial candidate in the upcoming state assembly elections. In a tweet, Chandrakar called out Chhattisgarh Congress in-charge Kumari Selja to declare the party’s face for the Chief Ministerial post. He went on to question if the elections will be fought on the face of the Gandhi family or on the face of Mr. Bhupesh Baghel.
Chandarkar also challenged the public acceptance of Congress leaders Pramod Krishnam, Kumari Selja, and P L Punia in their respective native places.
This statement comes at a pivotal time in Chhattisgarh politics as the state is gearing up for assembly elections in the later half of 2021. The Congress party, which is currently holding power, has yet to announce its official candidate for the Chief Ministerial position. BJP, on the other hand, has already established its pro-incumbency campaign with senior leader Amit Shah visiting the state in May 2021.
Congress has been battling internal power struggles and infighting within its party, which could result in a divided and weak opposition. Chandrakar’s tweet points towards the BJP’s campaign strategy to further politicize this division within the Congress.
The upcoming assembly elections will be an opportunity for both BJP and Congress to establish their supremacy in Chhattisgarh. However, with a lack of clarity regarding the Chief Ministerial face from Congress, it could impact the party’s chances of winning.
The BJP and Congress parties in Chhattisgarh are yet to officially respond to Chandrakar’s tweet at the time of writing.
