Chelsea Eye Move for PSG Midfielder Leandro Paredes as Frustrations Grow in Moises Caicedo Pursuit
Chelsea Football Club is reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes as frustrations continue to mount in their pursuit of Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. The Mauricio Pochettino-led side had an £80 million bid for Caicedo rejected recently, and with Brighton unwilling to lower their asking price, Chelsea is exploring alternative options.
According to the Evening Standard, Pochettino’s team is growing frustrated with the lack of progress in their pursuit of Caicedo, and as a result, they have turned their attention to Paredes. The Argentine midfielder, who spent the previous season on loan at Juventus, is in the final year of his contract at PSG and is available for a reasonable price.
Paredes, 29, had a well-publicized falling-out with former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri last year, which led to a heated argument after being left out of a crucial game against Inter Milan. However, he has had a successful tenure with PSG since joining the club in 2019 and was part of the team that won the 2022 World Cup, playing a vital role in Argentina’s victory.
Chelsea, who have undergone a summer clear-out in midfield with the departures of Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, are actively seeking new options. Alongside Paredes, they have been linked with other midfielders, such as Tyler Adams, Romeo Lavia, and Amadou Onana.
Tyler Adams from Leeds United, Romeo Lavia, a potential Liverpool target, and Everton’s Amadou Onana have all been on Chelsea’s radar. Additionally, the club has been in talks to secure a £35 million deal for Gabri Veiga from Celta Vigo.
In a separate move, Chelsea has agreed to sign goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25 million, following the departure of Edouard Mendy this summer.
As the transfer window draws closer to its conclusion, Chelsea is working diligently to strengthen their squad.
