A 48-year-old mother, Kerry Pugh, tragically lost her battle with cervical cancer after doctors wrongly declared her smear test as normal. Despite displaying tell-tale symptoms and being deemed high risk for HPV, medics gave her the all-clear. Kerry underwent a routine cervical cancer screening in June 2018 after experiencing irregular bleeding. Shockingly, the results were inaccurately reported as normal when severe cell changes were actually revealed. Two years later, an MRI scan showed that Kerry had a large invasive tumor larger than a tennis ball. Kerry’s devastated husband, Stephen Pugh, has sought legal advice to investigate whether more could have been done to diagnose her cancer sooner. He is considering taking legal action against the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust. Stephen urges women to be aware of the signs of cervical cancer and hopes that sharing their story will help others.
