The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in India has been renamed the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Society by the country’s central government, according to a recent decision. The Congress criticised the move, with senior party leader Jairam Ramesh taking to Twitter to accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “pettiness & Vengeance” and calling his actions “a small, small man overburdened by his insecurities”. The name change was proposed in 2016 by Modi, who suggested a museum dedicated to all of India’s prime ministers be established at the Teen Murti premises. During the opening ceremony last year, the three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family who had served as Indian Prime Ministers were not in attendance, despite receiving invitations.
