On the day of the Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya, renowned actors and directors from the Malayalam film industry took to social media to share images of the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. This move by the celebrities is seen as a reminder of the secular, socialist, and democratic values enshrined in the Constitution. Notably, this comes as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fulfills one of its major Hindutva promises with the Ram Janmabhoomi Movement, which resulted in the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992.
Prominent personalities from the Malayalam film industry, including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rima Kallingal, Divya Prabha, Rajesh Madhavan, Kani Kusruti, as well as directors Jeo Baby, Aashiq Abu, Kamal KM, Kunjila Mascillamani, and singer Sooraj Santhosh, shared photos of the Constitution’s Preamble.
The shared images of the Preamble emphasize the fundamental principles of India’s democracy. It reads, We the people of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic and to secure to all its citizens:
Justice, social, economic and political;
Liberty of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
Equality of status and of opportunity and to promote among them all;
Fraternity assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;
in our Constituent Assembly, this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949 do Hereby Adopt, Enact and give to ourselves this Constitution.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, sharing the Preamble on Instagram, captioned it as Our India. Meanwhile, actor and film producer Rima Kallingal praised the values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.
In contrast, individuals from the sports, entertainment, and political worlds gathered in Ayodhya as Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the Pran Pratishtha rituals to mark the inauguration of the Ram Temple.
The gesture by Malayalam film celebrities on social media highlights the significance of upholding the foundational principles of the Indian Constitution.
