Pune will soon have 2,800 additional CCTV cameras to help monitor crimes and traffic. The state director general of police, Rajnish Seth, approved the proposal submitted by the Pune police to add more cameras to the existing 1,400 CCTV cameras.
We are also encouraging private and government establishments to install good quality CCTV cameras which can be integrated with our monitoring system, said Seth. Government offices and private establishments were encouraged to install cameras in a way that also covered public roads nearby.
Pune police commissioner, Retesh Kumarr, explained that they studied street and area-wise crimes and included data from the past ten years, including chain snatchings, robberies, and other criminal activities such as accidents and body offences. Based on the study, they identified areas where crimes took place repeatedly and prepared the proposal to have more junctions and roads covered.
Kumarr said, We are already monitoring traffic and have also solved many crimes using the existing 1,400 CCTV cameras installed by the state home department. We had sent a fresh proposal to the DGP office and home department for another 2,800 CCTV cameras. The same will now be installed soon.
The CCTV monitoring system in Pune had helped the police solve crimes and monitor traffic. It will be even more effective using the new cameras that will cover more areas in the city. Residents can expect increased safety and security in public areas.
