The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has urged the Supreme Court to deny bail to Manish Sisodia, citing his alleged involvement as the kingpin in a case related to irregularities in the liquor policy. The CBI has stated that Sisodia, the Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, is fully aware of the ongoing investigation, including the larger conspiracy and the involvement of excise officials from Punjab.

The CBI has argued that Sisodia’s influence and clout make him undeserving of bail. They have expressed concerns that his release could lead to tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses. The agency highlighted Sisodia’s past conduct, referring to his destruction of his mobile phone on the day the matter was referred to the CBI by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Sisodia had moved the Supreme Court seeking bail in both CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy. The Delhi High Court had previously rejected his bail plea in both matters, citing the possibility of him influencing witnesses due to his high political position and his role within the ruling party in Delhi.

The CBI has alleged that Sisodia played a crucial role in the criminal conspiracy, stating that he was deeply involved in formulating and implementing the excise policy in question. The policy was subsequently withdrawn amid allegations of foul play by the Opposition. Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023 and is currently in judicial custody.

As per the CBI’s claims, Sisodia’s party colleagues holding high ranks continue to make factually incorrect claims to influence the investigation and portray him as a victim of political vendetta. The CBI has described Sisodia’s close nexus with the executive, offices, and bureaucrats, emphasizing his influence and clout.

The CBI’s opposition to Sisodia’s bail plea reflects their concerns regarding potential tampering with evidence and the possible influence he could wield over witnesses. The agency has presented their arguments to the Supreme Court, urging the dismissal of Sisodia’s bail application.
