Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, has called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into how leaders of the Trinamool Congress were able to access records of a phone conversation between two railway officials regarding the derailment of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express near Bahanaga railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday evening. Adhikari suspects the call was recorded by officials of the Kolkata Police, rather than being leaked by the Railways. Trinamool spokesman Kunal Ghosh had released a recording of the conversation on social media, though he could not verify its authenticity. Adhikari has said that he will wait for a few days and then approach the CBI to request that the call-leaking episode be included in its investigation into the train crash, which killed almost 300 people, including many from West Bengal. If the CBI does not take action, Adhikari said that he would personally go to the CBI office in Bhubaneswar or approach the court.
