The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) carried out simultaneous raids at the residences of several Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, including a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and two councillors, as part of an investigation into irregularities in school recruitment in West Bengal. The raids targeted Jafikul Islam, the MLA from Domkal in Murshidabad district, and councillors Bappaditya Dasgupta from Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Debraj Chakraborty from Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
The raids were conducted to uncover the alleged involvement of these TMC leaders in a teachers’ recruitment scam. CBI officials carried out searches in different locations in and around Kolkata, Murshidabad, and Cooch Behar districts. At Jafikul Islam’s residence, the CBI seized documents, cash, jewelry, and a notes-counting machine. The investigation also led to the raid of a college run by Islam in Murshidabad district.
During the raid at Bappaditya Dasgupta’s residence in Patuli, CBI sleuths seized bank statements, mobile phones, and documents related to potential candidates. Similarly, Debraj Chakraborty’s residence in Jyangra in Rajarhat was also searched by the CBI.
