A woman who had gone to a temple in Haryana’s Panchkula for prayers had a narrow escape after her car was swept away by a flash flood in a river. The incident took place on Sunday when the water level in the river suddenly increased and washed away her vehicle while she was still inside it. Fortunately, some locals witnessed the incident and rushed to help. Despite the strong current of water, they managed to rescue the woman and take her to a nearby hospital. A video of the rescue efforts was shared widely on social media.
In a separate incident, eight people who were stranded near the Ghaggar river in Panchkula were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force. Heavy rain in the catchment areas had caused the water level in the river to rise. Many parts of Haryana and Punjab have been experiencing heavy rainfall, leading to a drop in the minimum temperature, according to the Met Office. In the past 24 hours, several areas, including Ambala, Karnal, Narnaul, Rohtak, Bhiwani, Gurugram, Kurukshetra, and Mohali received rainfall.
Flash floods and heavy rains are not unusual during the monsoon season in India, especially in low-lying areas. Residents and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid such incidents. Meanwhile, the incident highlights the importance of quick thinking and action by locals to prevent tragedy in a crisis.
