A group of car drivers attacked and killed a tollgate staff member on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway in Ramnagar district, causing shock and outrage. The victim identified as Pavan Kumar was aged 26 and lived in the Bengaluru South taluk. The police said the attack took place on Sunday night, following a dispute between the victim and the attackers over paying toll fees. During the quarrel, the locals intervened and both sides were calmed down. However, the assailants waited near the toll plaza. Later, when Kumar took a dinner break, the attackers fatally hit him with hockey sticks.
The local police have formed two special teams to apprehend the suspects who have been absconding since the gruesome attack. The Ramnagar SP, Karthik Reddy condemned the incident and called it a barbaric act of violence. Sheshagirihalli Toll Plaza, where Kumar worked, has suspended its services. The incident has sparked outrage among the tollgate association members, who have demanded strict action against the attackers.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the perpetrators are expected to be caught soon. Meanwhile, Kumar’s family and colleagues are awaiting justice and have urged the authorities to take strict action against them. The incident highlights the increasing incidents of violence against frontline workers, including toll plaza staff, who face abuse, harassment, and violence because of their daily struggle to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow. The death of Pavan Kumar underscores the need for stronger measures to provide protection to the tollgate staff and ensure swift justice against those who perpetrate such heinous crimes.
