Victoria Police released a statement stating, At this time the driver has not been charged, with enquiries to continue after his eventual release from care. The lawyer representing the driver, Martin Amad, emphasized that his client is a family man with no criminal record and that his blood alcohol test result was negative after the crash. He added that the driver is deeply distressed by the incident and expresses empathy towards the victims’ families and the Daylesford community. The driver’s immediate medical treatment was necessary due to his insulin-dependent diabetic condition, which required assistance from paramedics at the scene.

The victims of this devastating car crash were identified as Vivek Bhatia (38), Vihan Bhatia (11), Pratibha Sharma (44), Anvi Sharma (9), and Jatin Chugh (30). They were all visiting the area when an SUV mounted a kerb and collided with individuals situated on the front lawn of the Royal Daylesford hotel on Sunday evening. Additionally, five individuals, including Ruchi Bhatia (36), Abeer Bhatia (6), and an 11-month-old child, are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital for their injuries.

A day after the incident, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton addressed the media, describing this event as an absolute tragedy. He mentioned that all the victims were visitors to the area. Meanwhile, the Wyndham City Council organized a touching candlelight vigil where members of the community, including several Indians, gathered to pay tribute to the departed souls and provide support to their grieving families.
