India‘s Minister of State for Ministry of External Affairs, Meenakashi Lekhi has called on the Canadian government to take action against an event held in Brampton that portrayed the celebration of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Lekhi said that any assassination or murder is a crime in democratic governance and should not be celebrated, adding that the government in Canada must act on the matter. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed concern over the issue, saying that it is not good for relationships when space is given to separatists, to extremists, and those who advocate violence. Furthermore, the High Commissioner for Canada in India, Cameron MacKay, condemned the event and reiterated that there is no place in Canada for hate or the glorification of violence.
