Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has organized a three-day long first-aid training programme called Be Aware Take Care in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). The event aims to impart first aid training to 30 student volunteers.
The event kick-started on June 19, 2021, at the School of Education (SoE), CUK. Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean Academic Affairs, addressed the gathering and appreciated the commendable work carried out by IRCS across the country. He highlighted the significance of such programmes, especially in the context of Jammu and Kashmir being prone to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods.
He also encouraged more students to participate as volunteers in such events in the future. Prof. Shahid Rasool stated, I wish to see the participation of more and more students as volunteers in such events, and that possibility can be realized in a phased manner.
The training aims to educate participants on various aspects of first aid, such as administering CPR, dealing with wounds, burns, and fractures, helping someone suffering from a heart attack or stroke, and much more. Such programmes are essential for improving the readiness of individuals in case of any medical emergencies, especially in areas where natural calamities are common.
The initiative by CUK and IRCS is commendable and will undoubtedly prepare more individuals to become first responders in case of an emergency. It will go a long way in saving lives and minimizing the damage caused by natural disasters.
