The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu, announced on Tuesday that he is proposing changes to recruitment rules for auditors to make IT proficiency a priority, as part of the office’s bid to become future-ready. Murmu also revealed that upgrades are being made to the office’s IT infrastructure, with digital audits being implemented and machine learning technologies being employed to handle data. Speaking after the SAI20 Summit meeting, Murmu said that a proposal has been made to the Department of Personnel and Training and the Union Public Service Commission for approval. He added that the CAG is already auditing AI frameworks in tandem with the government.
