The Business Cares Food Drive held its annual grocery store campaign in London, Ontario over the weekend, with hundreds of volunteers scattered across 37 grocery stores in the city. One of the notable highlights of the event was the presence of Bell Media personalities at Food Basics on Wonderland Road South, where they greeted customers and lent a hand with the food drive.

This year, the Business Cares campaign reported a significant surge in demand at the London Food Bank, with a 43 percent increase compared to the same period last year. To address this growing need, the food drive organizers accepted both monetary donations and food contributions.

Julie Atchison, a representative from Business Cares and a well-known CTV News London Meteorologist, expressed her excitement about the event, stating, It’s great. We’ve had our teams from Virgin Radio, Pure Country, and CTV onsite today. And it’s really just a great opportunity. People coming out to say hi and spreading some Christmas cheer. It’s such an important community event, and so many people are involved.

Financial donations were particularly emphasized as they enable the food bank to purchase fresh produce, milk, eggs, and baby food. Given that the London Food Bank serves over 13,000 individuals on a monthly basis, these contributions are crucial.

Atchison added, Hundreds of volunteers are spread out across this city, and it’s really an opportunity to just wish people a Merry Christmas and at the same time give back to the food bank.

The Business Cares Food Drive, apart from addressing immediate needs, aimed to create a positive and festive atmosphere where community members can come together to support one another during the holiday season.
