Four people, including a woman, were injured after a portion of a building collapsed in Ramabai Ambedkar colony in the Ghatkopar East area of Mumbai on Monday morning. The incident took place at around 8:36 am, and all the injured people were sent to the nearest hospital, where they are in stable condition.

The collapse occurred in Ramabai Ambedkar colony, near the Dr. Ambedkar Statue, Chawl No. 21, Ghatkopar East, in a G+1 structure where part of the 1st floor collapsed on a nearby room. Mahadev Khilare (50 yrs/M), Sunita Khilare (42 yrs/F), Rohit Khilare (23yrs/M), and Vaibhav Khilare (20 yrs/M) were injured in the incident, and all of them were treated on an OPD basis.

This is not the first such incident in the area. On Sunday, a portion of a three-storey building in Mumbai’s Rajawadi Colony, Ghatkopar (East), collapsed following heavy rainfall. Several people were buried under the debris of the building. Still, rescue teams quickly evacuated people, and four people were saved that day. A search operation was still underway for two people who were trapped under the rubble during that incident. However, on Monday, the bodies of both missing people were found and sent to Rajawadi Hospital, where they were declared dead.

Many authorities were involved in the rescue operations, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, NDRF, Police, Ward Staff, 108 Ambulance, and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

These incidents are alarming, and it is time for the government to take notice and take action to prevent such incidents in the future. Buildings should be constructed with adherence to safety standards, and routine inspections of old buildings should be conducted to ensure their structural integrity. The lives of common people must not be put at risk due to negligence by builders and authorities.

It is imperative to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. Proper measures must be taken to prevent disasters caused by structural failures and safeguard the lives of citizens. It is the responsibility of the authorities to provide safe living conditions for people and to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
