A BSF jawan was injured in an attack by militants in Manipur’s Moreh town. The injured jawan has been shifted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, where he is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable. The attack also left four police commandos injured. The violence in Moreh began after a rally by the All Tribal Students Union of Manipur (ATSUM) on May 3, 2023, triggering clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities. Due to the ongoing violence and loss of lives, the central government had to deploy paramilitary forces to restore peace. Curfew has been reimposed in Moreh after intermittent gunfights between armed miscreants and state police commandos since Saturday afternoon. The deployment of paramilitary forces is at the behest of the state police for law and order situations. Ensuring the safety and protection of the security forces and restoring peace in the area remain the top priorities in the wake of this incident.
