Brutal Beating of Black Man by Jacksonville Police Sparks Outrage

The recent brutal beating of a Black man by officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has fueled national outrage and prompted the family of the victim, Le’Keian Woods, to seek justice. They have retained the services of renowned Civil Rights attorney Harry Daniels, who has released a video of the incident that has already gone viral on social media.

According to the family, Woods was subjected to multiple assaults by JSO officers after being pulled over for an alleged seat belt violation on September 29. Shockingly, this incident bears a striking resemblance to the 2019 killing of Jamee Johnson, a 22-year-old who was also fatally shot by a JSO officer for a similar alleged seat belt violation.

In the disturbing video footage, uniformed and plain clothes officers are seen repeatedly attacking Woods, even after he is already handcuffed. They strike him and forcefully slam his head into the ground in an act of violence that Civil Rights attorney Harry Daniels condemns as absolutely unacceptable.

If you watch this video of officers repeatedly assaulting Le’Keian, slamming his head into the ground and manhandling him while he’s already handcuffed and defenseless, and it doesn’t convince you that these officers need to be removed from active duty, just take a look at Le’Keian’s face, states Daniels. He bears the marks of a victim who went through a brutal encounter resembling a twelve-round bout with a professional boxer. His survival is nothing short of a miracle.

This incident comes at a time of heightened tension surrounding race relations in Jacksonville, especially after the tragic killing of three Black residents by Ryan Palmeter, a white supremacist, at a Dollar General store in the predominantly Black New Town neighborhood last month. The shocking events thrust the Florida community into the national spotlight.

Despite the severity of the incident and the public outcry it has generated, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department is yet to release the body camera footage from Friday’s incident or disclose the identities of the officers involved. This lack of transparency raises concerns about accountability within the local law enforcement agency.

As the case unfolds and the video continues to circulate, community members and activists are demanding justice for Le’Keian Woods and a thorough investigation into the actions of the officers. The incident once again highlights the urgent need for police reform and impartial examination of cases involving excessive use of force.

The brutal beating of Le’Keian Woods is not an isolated event but rather a painful reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by Black communities in America. It serves as a stark call for action to ensure that incidents like these are properly addressed and that the fundamental rights and safety of all citizens are protected, regardless of their race or ethnicity.
