The Bruhat Bangalore Hotel Association (BBHA) has requested that the city police allow restaurants to remain open 24/7 to accommodate those who work late, such as milk, vegetable, and flower vendors who don’t find anything to eat. They have also included newspaper suppliers, travelers who work nights and police personnel, and medical professionals. The government previously issued guidelines that allowed restaurants to be open around the clock, but the Bengaluru Police refused permission, citing a staff shortage. The BBHA letter to Home Minister Dr G Parmeshwara stated that it will create more jobs while bolstering business, and travelers can also find water and use the washrooms. Only restaurants and small eateries, not bars, in commercial areas, will be permitted to stay open, and permission should be given to restaurants that submitted their applications. Notably, the rule has been authorized by both the state and central governments. If the state government does not agree, the association will take the matter to court, as they believe that the police cannot prevent the implementation of notifications. BBHA’s president P.C. Rao stated that other states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu have already allowed restaurants to open 24/7, so why not Karnataka?
