Brothers Arraigned in Bend Shooting Death | Aug. 10 Murder Case Updates

Two brothers, Caleb and Dahnte Cegers, were arraigned in Deschutes County Circuit Court on separate hearings for their alleged involvement in the shooting death of Taylor Wyss in downtown Bend. The incident occurred on August 10 outside a bar after a fight broke out following Caleb Cegers and Sadie Madalyn Cole being asked to leave for disruptive behavior.

After a nationwide manhunt, the brothers were apprehended in Cleveland, Tennessee on August 18. However, their extradition to Oregon took some time due to transportation logistics. They were finally booked into the Deschutes County jail on Thursday by the U.S. Marshals Office.

Caleb Joseph Cegers, 21, is facing charges of second degree murder, first degree assault with a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon. His older brother, Dahnte Nathaniel Cegers, 26, is being charged with unlawfully assisting his brother in avoiding apprehension.

During Caleb Cegers’ arraignment, contact with Cole and his brother was prohibited. Dahnte Cegers was also prohibited from contacting Caleb Cegers and Cole. Cole, who allegedly helped Caleb Cegers flee the scene, is facing charges of disorderly conduct and assault.

Dahnte Cegers’ bail was set at $100,000, and due to his previous criminal history, he is forbidden from possessing any firearms. Caleb Cegers was represented by a court-appointed attorney who did not seek bail for him.

The shooting incident has shocked the community and brought attention to the need for increased safety measures. The trial will provide an opportunity for justice to be served and for the truth to come to light.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting non-violence and resolving conflicts peacefully. The community mourns the loss of Taylor Wyss and hopes that incidents like these can be prevented in the future.

Overall, the arraignment proceedings have progressed, and the trials of Caleb and Dahnte Cegers will continue as the legal system seeks to determine their culpability in this devastating shooting death.
