Brother of Aaron Hernandez Arrested for Threats and Breach of Peace
Dennis DJ Hernandez, the older brother of the late New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, is set to appear in New Britain Superior Court on Tuesday. Hernandez, 37, has been charged with threatening and breach of peace. He has been in custody since last month on a $250,000 bond.
According to an arrest warrant obtained by News 8, Bristol police stated that Hernandez exhibited signs of being gravely disabled and a danger to society. The warrant revealed that Hernandez’s ex-girlfriend reported that instead of attending his scheduled court appearance on July 7, he drove to Brown University and UConn’s Storrs campus. There, he allegedly entered several classrooms and buildings, prompting concerns that he may have been mapping out the schools or planning school shootings.
Furthermore, the arrest warrant mentioned that Hernandez posted threatening language on his social media page on July 19. One of his posts explicitly stated, Will I kill? Absolutely. I’ve warned my enemies, so pay upfront. These alarming statements raised concerns among authorities and the public.
In response to the threats made by Hernandez, police arrived at a residence where he was believed to be located later that day. Hernandez allegedly informed officers that he was armed and warned that he would kill them if they approached him. Despite numerous commands from the police, Hernandez continued to advance towards them, yelling shoot me. Subsequently, an officer deployed a taser, causing Hernandez to fall to the ground. He was then taken into custody and subsequently transported to the hospital.
While at the hospital, Hernandez continued to make threats, specifically mentioning that he would kill anyone who profited off of his brother Aaron. Although he specifically referenced ESPN, he did not direct any threats towards specific individuals affiliated with the organization.
Moreover, Hernandez is also facing federal charges related to the alleged threats. A federal complaint has charged him with transmitting interstate communications containing a threat to injure and interstate stalking.
It’s worth mentioning that Aaron Hernandez, known as a tight end for the Patriots, tragically took his own life in 2017 while serving a murder sentence in prison. DJ Hernandez was previously arrested in March for allegedly throwing a bag containing a brick and a note over a fence onto ESPN’s property in Bristol before leaving the scene, possibly in an Uber.
The case of Dennis DJ Hernandez has shocked many, especially given his connection to his late brother and the serious nature of the charges against him. As he prepares to appear in court, the public anxiously awaits further developments. The court proceedings will shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Hernandez’s alleged threats and breach of peace, and the justice system will determine the appropriate course of action.
