Denver Broncos’ Star Signing Mike McGlinchey Suffers Minor Knee Sprain in Practice

ENGLEWOOD – The Denver Broncos received some positive injury news as star signing Mike McGlinchey’s knee sprain turned out to be a minor one, according to coach Sean Payton. McGlinchey, who joined the Broncos in free agency and signed a five-year, $87.5 million deal in March, went down during practice on Tuesday.

Fortunately, Payton confirmed that McGlinchey’s injury is not serious and he is expected to be out for a few weeks. While he is likely to miss the three preseason games, including the first one against the Arizona Cardinals on Friday, McGlinchey should be ready for the regular-season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders on September 10.

The Broncos have been plagued by injuries throughout training camp. Wide receiver Tim Patrick and linebacker Jonas Griffith are both out for the season with torn Achilles and ACL injuries, respectively. Additionally, wide receiver KJ Hamler was waived after being diagnosed with a minor heart irritation, but there’s a possibility of him being re-signed in the future. Rookie cornerback Riley Moss will also miss the entire preseason due to core muscle surgery.

To address their pass-rushing needs, the Broncos have brought in former NFL star defensive end Jared Allen as a guest coach during training camp. Allen, who played in the league from 2004-2015 and accumulated 136 career sacks, will be sharing his knowledge and expertise with the team’s defensive linemen.

Ahead of their preseason game against the Cardinals, Payton expressed some concerns about the field conditions at State Farm Stadium, where the Super Bowl was played last February. Payton mentioned that the field has traditionally been a fast and firm surface but acknowledged the previous issues during the Super Bowl. The team will assess the field ahead of the game and make any necessary adjustments to footwear.

Wide receiver Marquez Callaway, one of the Broncos’ new signings, took on a different role during a press conference by posing a question to fellow wide receiver Courtland Sutton. Callaway asked if Sutton had formed any strong bonds with the new players, to which Sutton mentioned his friendship with Callaway and Lil’Jordan Humphrey, who both played under Payton in New Orleans and have provided insights into the team’s playbook.

In other news, quarterback Russell Wilson has shown improvement in his passing during camp, bouncing back from some early interception troubles. Payton emphasized the importance of offensive success in building confidence for the team. Furthermore, outside linebackers Frank Clark and Randy Gregory have been managed carefully during team sessions, with both players set to feature in Friday’s preseason game.

The Broncos recently worked out free-agent wide receivers Ra’Shaun Henry and J.J. Koski as they continue to evaluate potential additions to their roster.

Overall, despite the injury woes, the Broncos received some encouraging news regarding Mike McGlinchey’s knee sprain, and the team remains focused on preparing for the upcoming season.
