Brighton resident Caitlyn Perry Dial has announced her commitment to serving as a trustee with the Brighton District Library (BDL), as she officially registers for another term in November. Perry Dial, who was elected in 2020, has a passion for libraries and currently serves as the board secretary in Brighton. In addition to her role at BDL, she also works as the director of development for MSU Libraries. Perry Dial’s love for libraries stems from their role as a third space for the community, offering a sense of belonging and welcoming all residents. She emphasized that libraries are not just about books but also provide various opportunities and resources for the local population.

The Brighton District Library offers an array of amenities, including audiobooks, movies, TV shows on DVD, CDs, as well as borrowable items such as musical instruments, household tools, puzzles, and memory care kits. Residents can also reserve study and meeting rooms through the library’s website and take advantage of its mobile printing services. The library’s genealogy room is home to one of the largest collections of family and local history in Livingston County. Moreover, BDL has plans to establish a maker space this year, featuring items like a 3D printer for in-library use.

A recent year-end fundraising campaign raised approximately $20,000 to support the library’s new projects, including the maker space. Perry Dial acknowledged the library’s leadership and her fellow trustees for their efforts in guiding the library through both internal and external renovations during her first term. Notably, an exterior reading trail was created, and internal sections of the library were modernized.

Despite taking on another volunteer professional role as the president of the Michigan Museums Association, Perry Dial expressed her strong commitment to the Brighton District Library. Running for another term as a trustee was an easy decision for her, as she values the opportunity to work with her fellow board members and contribute to the community.

In addition to Caitlyn Perry Dial, the terms of other trustees Jordan Genso, Patrick McDonald, and Arla McPeek will also expire on December 31.

With Perry Dial’s announcement, it is evident that her dedication to libraries and her belief in their significance as a community resource continue to drive her commitment to the Brighton District Library. Her registered candidacy marks her determination to contribute to the library’s ongoing success and further enhance its offerings for the residents of Brighton.
