A bridge over Mindhola River on the road connecting Maipur and Degama villages in the Tapi district of Gujarat collapsed on June 14th. According to officials, around 15 villages in the Vyara Tehsil area of Gujarat have been affected. Nirav Rathod, the executive engineer, stated that the construction work of the bridge started in 2021, costing Rs 2 crore. The reason for the collapse is yet unknown and will be determined after investigations by experts.
This incident follows just a few days after the Aguwani-Sultanganj bridge collapsed in Bhagalpur, Bihar. The bridge was designed to connect Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts via the river Ganges, costing over Rs 1,770 crore and intended to be completed in 2019.
As of now, more information on the incident in Gujarat is awaited. The collapse of the bridge has undoubtedly caused much inconvenience to the local population, and the investigations into the matter will shed light on what caused it. It is essential to ensure the safety and timely maintenance of infrastructure and to avoid such mishaps in the future.
These incidents serve as a reminder that the government must consider the strict implementation of safety protocols to protect citizens, the importance of timely repairs and maintenance of structures, and the need for transparency in expenditure and project management.
