Brewers Face Second Consecutive Loss to Dodgers, Risking Series Sweep Tonight

The Milwaukee Brewers suffered another disappointing defeat at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking their second consecutive loss in the series. In a game that followed a strikingly similar pattern to the previous night’s clash, the Brewers faced a 7-1 defeat, leaving them on the brink of a series sweep.

It was a rough night for the Brewers, who committed two errors that contributed to their downfall. Catcher’s interference calls on William Contreras and a missed fly ball by Joey Wiemer resulted in a double. Despite holding the Dodgers to a low 32.1% hard-hit rate, the Brewers struggled to find their footing.

The game started with Contreras’ first catcher’s interference in the first inning, which occurred against JD Martinez after Will Smith reached on an infield single. The Dodgers capitalized on this opportunity, scoring a run on a groundout by Amed Rosario to take an early 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Mark Canha managed to tie the game for the Brewers with a solo home run, his first since joining the team. However, the Dodgers swiftly responded by adding two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Miguel Rojas hit a homer, Smith secured another infield single, and Martinez’s catcher’s interference led to the second run.

The Brewers’ only run of the night came from a sacrifice fly by Smith in the fourth inning, making the score 4-1. Brewers pitcher Wade Miley had a decent outing, allowing four runs (three earned) across five innings. Despite holding the Dodgers to an average exit velocity of 83.2 mph, Miley conceded seven hits.

The Dodgers extended their lead in the sixth inning against Brewers pitcher Abner Uribe. Freddie Freeman’s warning track fly ball, caught by Wiemer but ultimately ruled a double, allowed a run to score. Smith followed with an RBI single, bringing the score to 6-1. In the eighth inning, Chris Taylor sealed the victory for the Dodgers with a solo home run off Andrew Chafin.

On the offensive front, the Brewers struggled to make an impact against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers’ formidable bullpen. Although they recorded ten hard-hit balls, eight of them resulted in outs.

Additionally, the Brewers faced a new challenge when former Brewer Rule 5 pick Gus Varland took the mound for the Dodgers in his first appearance for the team since being selected on Tuesday. Varland impressed, firing two scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Brewers now find themselves facing the prospect of a series sweep in the upcoming finale on Thursday night. Corbin Burnes will start on the mound for the Brewers, opposite Lance Lynn of the Dodgers. The game is scheduled to begin at 9:10 p.m. CT, and the Brewers will undoubtedly be aiming to avoid another defeat to salvage their series record.
