2024 is set to be an exciting year for BMW enthusiasts, as the automaker gears up to launch several new models. Among the upcoming releases, the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe are due for a complete refresh, skipping the usual Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) and moving straight to the next generation. Recently, a camouflaged version of the BMW 1 Series F70 was caught on camera in an intriguing walkaround video.

The five-door hatchback was still cloaked in camouflage, attempting to keep under wraps what seems to be an evolutionary design. Captured on a driveway near Munich, Germany, the prototype was parked beside a Mercedes EQB, fueling speculation about the BMW employee’s choice of wheels. While rendered images depict the M Performance model, the spy video reveals a lesser version positioned below the M135i.

From the footage, it’s evident that we’re not dealing with the range-topping 1 Series, as the absence of quad exhaust tips sets it apart. The prototype showcased large-diameter wheels with a stunning two-tone appearance, possibly indicating the inclusion of the M Sport Package. Although the camouflaged vehicle appeared to be a 1 Series F40 LCI rather than a true next-gen model, discerning eyes could spot the sharper headlights and an active kidney grille with the flaps closed.

Stepping inside the vehicle, we get a glimpse of the next-generation 1 Series dashboard, which boasts a completely fresh design accommodating Operating System 9. The latest iDrive system, running on Android Automotive, does away with traditional elements like the rotary knob, embracing a more modern approach. Shared with the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe (F74), the layout of the new 1 Series will closely resemble the interiors of BMW’s latest compact crossovers, the X1 and X2.

If insider sources are to be believed, production of the new 1 Series is slated to begin in July 2024. Assuming these reports are accurate, we can expect an official reveal in late spring or early summer. As part of the refresh, the gasoline models are rumored to lose the i in their names, with the M135 xDrive being one of the anticipated variations.

Car enthusiasts and BMW fans worldwide eagerly await the launch of the new 1 Series F70. With its evolutionary design, advanced technology, and extensive updates, the upcoming release promises to deliver an exhilarating driving experience. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly-anticipated model from BMW.
