B S Yediyurappa, the veteran BJP leader, has announced that the party will lead protests both inside and outside the assembly during the legislative session. The BJP is demanding that the Congress government in the state implements its poll guarantees. The former Chief Minister has called on party workers to prepare for the 2024 Lok Sabha and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections and ensure that the BJP wins.
In a press conference held on Sunday, Yediyurappa said that he will lead the protests in front of the Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha starting July 4. The BJP will protest against the anti-farmer and anti-people policies of the government.
During the Karnataka elections, people believed in the Congress’s guarantee card; however, they were deceived. As a result, the BJP could not win in over 100 seats. The BJP will protest against the government for its failure to implement its five guarantees within 24 hours, as promised.
Yediyurappa’s announcement came after Congress leader Siddaramaiah accused the former Chief Minister of conspiring against the government. Siddaramaiah accused Yediyurappa of trying to topple the government using financial means.
The BJP leader, however, denied the allegations and claimed that the Congress government was trying to defame him. He said that his only aim is to work for the welfare of the people of Karnataka.
Yediyurappa’s announcement comes at a time when the BJP is already agitating against the government over the alleged scam in the purchase of COVID-19 equipment. The BJP has accused the government of corruption in buying ventilators and other medical equipment to handle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The BJP has been demanding a CBI inquiry into the matter. The government has denied the allegations and claimed that it has done nothing wrong.
The political scenario in Karnataka is likely to heat up as both the BJP and the Congress are gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha and BBMP elections. The BJP is hoping to win a large number of seats in the upcoming elections and is preparing for a long-term fight.
As the BJP plans their protest, the Congress will need to respond in an effective manner to the opposition’s criticism and work on implementing their poll promises as quickly as possible.
