The upcoming Assembly polls in Rajasthan have everyone’s attention as all eyes are set on who could emerge as the next Chief Minister for the state. While Congress has two major leaders, BJP appears to have a long list of CM faces.
Vasundhara Raje, the former CM who led the state twice has built a strong mass base among people, although there are reportedly some differences between her and the top leadership. Gajendra Singh Shekahwat, the Union Minister for Jal Shakti is another leader being considered, as he is said to be in good books with Modi and Shah.
Diya Kumari, a charming and strong leader from Jaipur’s erstwhile royal family, has shown her accomplishments during her tenure as an MLA in Sawai Madhopur and MP in Rajsamand. Arjun Ram Meghwal, who comes from a Dalit background, has a strong fan base and is considered close to Modi and Shah.
The leader of opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, Rajendra Rathore, has an understanding of state politics and his own leadership. C.P. Joshi, who was recently made the state president, has won the heart of who’s who of Rajasthan politics and is said to be the next CM.
Alongside Congress, Ashok Gehlot and deputy CM Sachin Pilot are being considered. Gehlot is making news by announcing new schemes and touring new locations each day, while all eyes are on Pilot to see if he stays with Congress or creates his own party.
The polls, set for December this year, have everyone waiting to see who will eventually emerge as the next CM, as the BJP and Congress pull out all stops to gain the upper hand.
