The Congress party has criticized the BJP-led government in Manipur for its failure to control the situation in the state. The party has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the issue and meet with leaders from 10 like-minded opposition parties from the northeastern state who are in the national capital to discuss the matter. Jairam Ramesh, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications, said that the Prime Minister has not broken his silence on the Manipur situation, even though it has been over 40 days since the issue began. The opposition leaders are hopeful that Prime Minister Modi will meet with them to discuss the matter and provide a solution. Former Manipur Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh denied any political motive for their demands and stated that they are calling for peace in the troubled state. The Congress party has urged the government to take necessary steps to resolve the issue and restore stability to Manipur.
