BJP’s Double Standards Exposed: Nehru and Other Leaders Used When Convenient, Blamed When Needed – Congress Leader, India

Congress leader K Suresh criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for their alleged double standards regarding the use and blame of prominent leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru. Reacting to Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark that Nehru and other leaders were opposed to Delhi being given full statehood, Suresh accused the BJP of conveniently using these leaders’ views to support their arguments when it suits them, and blaming them when it doesn’t.

During the consideration and passage of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, Amit Shah stated that Nehru, Sardar Patel, Rajaji, Rajendra Prasad, and Dr. Ambedkar were against granting full statehood to Delhi. While opposition parties walked out, the Lok Sabha passed the bill easily as the BJP-led NDA has a majority.

The Bill, which replaces an ordinance related to the transfers and postings of senior officers in the city government, will now be tabled in the Rajya Sabha, where the NDA lacks a majority. However, the YSRCP and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) have also expressed their support for the bill.

Suresh’s criticism stems from the BJP’s alleged political tactic of selectively using or blaming Nehru, Patel, and Ambedkar as per their convenience. He accused the party of exhibiting double standards by utilizing these leaders’ views when it suits their arguments, but discrediting them when it doesn’t.

The controversy surrounding the bill highlights the ongoing debate over the status of Delhi as a full state. While the BJP and its supporters argue in favor of keeping Delhi under the control of the Lieutenant-Governor, opposition parties, including the Congress, advocate for granting full statehood.

As the bill progresses to the Rajya Sabha, where its outcome is uncertain, all eyes remain on the final decision regarding the control and governance of the national capital. The passage of the bill in the Lok Sabha raises questions about the balance of power and the relationship between the central government and Delhi’s administration.

In conclusion, Congress leader K Suresh accused the BJP of adopting double standards in their utilization and blame of leaders like Nehru. With the passage of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 in the Lok Sabha, the debate on Delhi’s statehood continues. The bill will now face scrutiny in the Rajya Sabha, presenting an opportunity for opposing parties to voice their concerns and perspectives. The final decision on the bill’s fate will have significant implications for the governance and control of Delhi.
