BJP Worker Arrested for Derogatory Tweet Against CM Siddaramaiah in Udupi College Incident

A BJP worker named S Shakunthala, also known as HS Shakunthala, from Tumakuru, has been arrested by the High Grounds police in Bengaluru for posting derogatory comments about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Twitter. However, she has been released on station bail.

The tweet in question, written in Kannada, targeted the CM in relation to the Udupi voyeurism incident. Shakunthala questioned whether the same actions, if applied to the CM’s wife or daughter-in-law, would be considered mere child’s play. She referred to a tweet from the Karnataka Congress party’s Twitter handle that dismissed the Udupi college incident as a case of children’s play.

A Congress worker named A Hanumanthraya from Surapura taluk in Yadgir district filed a complaint against Shakunthala at the High Grounds police station. He claimed to have seen her objectionable tweets while he was at the Congress Bhavana on Race Course Road. Based on his complaint, the police booked Shakunthala under section 509 of the IPC for word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.

It is worth noting that Shakunthala had previously participated in a protest in Tumakuru demanding action against three college students involved in the Udupi college incident.
