In the wake of the tragic train accident that occurred in Balasore, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the deferral of all its government anniversary programs, scheduled for Saturday. The event was supposed to celebrate the ninth anniversary of the Modi government’s tenure. Party president J.P. Nadda took to Twitter to express his grief about the terrible event, which has, according to reports, had devastating consequences, leaving 233 individuals dead.
Between May 30 and June 30, the BJP had planned a series of programs across the country to commemorate the government anniversary. However, Friday’s train collision in Odisha’s Balasore district, which has left over 900 people injured and more than two hundred dead, has caused the party to reschedule such events.
In what is being called by Indian media as one of the nation’s worst railway disasters in years, three trains colliding one after another resulted in the tragic event. On Friday, the Coromandel Express and the Bengaluru-Howrah trains collided with a goods train in the Bahanaga region of the district.
The BJP is one of India’s major political parties and is currently the ruling party in the country. The decision to postpone their anniversary events highlights the gravity of the Balasore incident and serves as a reminder of the need to prioritize public safety measures in transportation systems.
