BJP MLAs Demand Resignation of Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav

Members of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) created a ruckus in the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday, demanding the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. The demand comes after Tejashwi was charge-sheeted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a land-for-job scam in the railways.

As soon as the session began, BJP chief whip Janak Ram demanded Tejashwi’s resignation, citing his involvement in a corruption case. Tejashwi was sitting alongside Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other senior cabinet colleagues when the demand was raised.

Although the session was adjourned after just 16 minutes, BJP leaders made it clear that they will continue to press for Tejashwi’s resignation during the remaining four days of the session.

The leader of the opposition in the assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha, stated that the CM should ask for his deputy’s resignation since he has now been charge-sheeted in a corruption case. Sinha also highlighted that Nitish Kumar had asked for the resignation of several ministers in the past when they were named in police cases. He questioned the CM’s apparent silence on Tejashwi’s matter, asking where his zero tolerance policy on corruption was in this case.

Before the session began, a group of BJP members led by former deputy CM Renu Devi and Darbhanga MLA Sanjay Sarawagi gathered near the assembly portico, demanding Tejashwi’s resignation and raising their voices against the charge-sheeted deputy CM.

Interestingly, Nitish Kumar arrived at the assembly along with Tejashwi and his elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, in the CM’s official car. This was seen as a symbolic gesture to refute any rumors of disunity within the grand alliance.

Earlier in the day, Nitish, Tejashwi, and Tej Pratap attended an event organized by the environment and forest department, where the CM inaugurated the state-level Van Mahotsav by planting a ‘Maulshree’ sapling.

During the session, the Speaker, Awadh Bihari Choudhary, urged the members to adhere to the rules and procedures of the assembly while raising their questions and issues. He assured them that the government would be compelled to provide replies on all subjects. He also encouraged the members to make the most of the small session, scheduled to conclude on July 14th.

The demand for Tejashwi’s resignation by BJP MLAs has undoubtedly intensified the political atmosphere in Bihar. As the session continues, it remains to be seen how the ruling alliance will handle this persistent demand.
