In a recent development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president in Manipur, Sharda Devi, has applauded Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to violence-stricken Manipur, stating that the focus should be on restoring peace and not politicizing the issue. Gandhi recently visited relief camps in Churachandpur and Moirang districts, as well as met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey.

Devi also expressed her belief that the people of Manipur have faith in Chief Minister Biren Singh’s ability to improve the situation. She highlighted the support the Chief Minister has received from the public, stating that they trust his government to bring about positive change. Devi also attributed the current situation to the actions of the previous government.

Amidst speculation about his possible resignation, Chief Minister Biren Singh clarified on Friday that he would not be stepping down from his position at this crucial time. Singh has faced criticism from the opposition, particularly the Congress, concerning the state’s law and order situation. Manipur has been engulfed in ethnic violence for nearly two months, prompting calls for Singh’s resignation.

In a show of support for the Chief Minister, hundreds of women gathered near his residence, and Singh acknowledged their support by waving to them. Internet services remain suspended in the state, and there is a curfew in force in some areas.

The ethnic clashes in Manipur began on May 3 during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the inclusion of Meiteis in the list of Scheduled Tribes (STs).

In conclusion, BJP Manipur President Sharda Devi appreciates Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur and emphasizes the need to prioritize peace and find a solution to the ongoing violence. She also expresses the confidence that the people of Manipur have in Chief Minister Biren Singh’s ability to restore order. Despite calls for his resignation, Singh has clarified that he will not be stepping down. The support for Singh is evident through the gathering of women near his residence, and the state continues to face internet restrictions and curfew due to the situation.
