A BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh’s capital city, Bhopal, allegedly shot and killed his wife in the early hours of Tuesday following a dispute. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Rajendra Pandey, was in an inebriated state when the incident occurred in Sai Nagar Colony. Pandey reportedly had an argument with his wife over something which escalated into violence. The BJP leader then fired a 12-bore gun at his wife, hitting her in the waist, which resulted in her death. When the incident occurred, the couple’s daughter and son-in-law were present in the house.
After committing the crime, Pandey allegedly absconded, and the police have launched a search operation to arrest him. Pandey has also held the position of Mandal Vice President in the BJP in the past, although his current designation is unknown.
The incident has caused outrage in the political circles in the state. The State Congress spokesperson, JP Dhanopia, said that the BJP should take responsibility for the incident because the accused had been a party worker. Dhanopia also criticized the BJP for spreading lawlessness in the state.
The tragic incident has also raised questions about the effectiveness of gun control laws in India, as cases of domestic violence ending in firearm-related deaths are becoming increasingly common. While owning a firearm in India is legal, individuals must first obtain licenses from the authorities.
The incident has highlighted the need for stricter gun control laws and regulations to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. The incident is currently under investigation, and the police are working to bring the accused to justice.
