The West Bengal BJP has requested central forces to be deployed for 15 days after the Panchayat polls scheduled on July 8th. The demand is to prevent violence in the state after the poll results are declared on July 11th. Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari reminded people how Trinamool Congress-backed goons unleashed violence after the 2021 Assembly polls, and the same could happen after the Panchayat polls. The BJP has also submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commission. A total of 337 companies of central armed forces have already been deployed in the state, and they have started to conduct route marches in tension-prone areas. The State Election Commission has sought a total of 822 companies of central armed forces for the rural civic body polls, and the distribution of forces personnel on the polling day is yet to be decided. BJP has complained that such complications due to force distribution would not have arisen if the polls were conducted in five phases as in 2013, instead of a single phase this year.
