Telangana’s ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has claimed that the appointment of N Satyanarayana as chairman of the Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TS RERA) by the state’s government Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao goes against the state’s prescribed norms. According to the BJP leader Gudur Narayana Reddy, the newly-appointed chairman does not meet the eligibility requirements of the RERA Act, 2016. Reddy also urged the state government to appoint a competent chairperson to bring an end to fraudulent practices in the real estate business.

Satyanarayana is currently serving as the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration. Reddy alleged that his appointment violated the RERA Act, which states that only a person who has held the position of additional secretary in the Union Government or an equivalent position in the state government, or the secretary of the state government or the Centre, should be appointed as the chairman of the RERA.

The BJP leader claimed that the appointment of a non-eligible person as the chairman of TS RERA by the state government indicates that the institution has been rendered ineffective. According to Reddy, the appointment of a less-qualified chairman would enable the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to influence Satynarayana. As a result, there may be a lack of independent regulation of the real estate business in the city. Reddy also noted that some developers engage in unethical practices to make money through real estate, deceiving many homebuyers and plot buyers in the process.

The BJP leader emphasised the need to appoint a qualified and efficient chairperson to TS RERA to put a stop to these fraudulent practices in the real estate industry. Reddy also suggested that an incompetent chairman would be unable to regulate the industry effectively. The institution must have a qualified and efficient chairperson to ensure that the real estate business is conducted appropriately.

Overall, the BJP has alleged that the Telangana state government’s appointment of the current Chairman of TS RERA violates the RERA Act, 2016. The appointment may hinder the enforcement of regulations designed to combat fraudulent practices in the real estate business. The BJP has emphasised the need for a competent chairperson to be appointed to TS RERA to ensure that the real estate business is conducted ethically and transparently.
