The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has criticized the decision of the Himachal Pradesh government to scrap Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) for doctors, calling it “anti-people”. BJP spokesperson Randhir Sharma has demanded that the Congress government withdraw the decision immediately.
The HP government notified on Thursday that doctors recruited in Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Dental, Ayush and Animal Husbandry departments will not be entitled to NPA. Sharma stated that pay cuts will discourage citizens from taking up government jobs, resulting in a degraded health system. Moreover, the notification does not specify whether doctors will be allowed to do private practice.
Further, Sharma accused the Congress government of hiking power tariffs and stopping the provision of free school uniforms, bags and water bottles to students of government schools, thus putting additional burden on the locals of the state.
Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi are other regions in which similar initiatives have been taken recently by the respective governments, with major reformations that face public scrutiny.
Madhya Pradesh has assigned forest officials to search for cheetah ‘Asha’ in Shepur, however, villagers mistook them as cattle thieves and attacked them. While on the other hand, New Delhi witnessed the opening of a new extravagant parliament building, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing his pride on it.
The BJP is one of India’s primary political parties, known for its conservative Hindutva ideology and offers a more right-wing alternative to the incumbent Indian National Congress. It is currently the governing party of the central government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party has some of the most prominent leaders of the country and is noted for its strict disciplinary approach.
