Sources from India’s ruling party, the BJP, have claimed that they have enough support in Parliament to pass a bill on the ordinance for the control of administrative services in Delhi. This comes following a rally held by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal against the ordinance, which seeks to undo a Supreme Court ruling that favoured his government. The Aam Aadmi Party, which Kejriwal leads, has been attempting to gain support from non-BJP parties to challenge the ordinance. Despite lacking a majority in Rajya Sabha, the BJP believes that it can still pass the legislation, due to its success in getting support from regional parties in the past. The ordinance will require Parliament’s approval in the upcoming Monsoon Session, which will likely begin in July. Kejriwal has criticised the ordinance, claiming it is an insult to the people of Delhi, and warns that similar ordinances for other states could follow if the current one passes.
